About

Alison Hindley photo

As a freelance translator since September 1997, I specialise in the translation and proofreading of documents relating to law, business, the environment and music from German and Italian into English.

Apart from my freelance experience, I have worked in-house for ASK Translation in London where I translated and revised banking, insurance, legal and business documents in a team environment. I was also a Research Officer in the Artificial Intelligence Group at the University of Surrey. This involved terminology management, translation, survey organisation and analysis, report writing and administration on a number of projects including the European Commission-funded Pointer Project, which aimed to discover the demand and desire for shared terminology resources between language service providers. As a Data Editor at Financial Times Information in Holbury, Hampshire, I produced summary translations of financial information from annual reports.

Music and dance are key elements in my life. Besides certificates in ballet, piano and music theory, I have the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 8 in Singing (Summer 2004). I am a choral singer and soloist with Northavon Singers, South Gloucestershire and was Chairperson from September 2010 until September 2015. I have also taken American jazz tap and English folk dance classes since 2009.
